World-famous nuclear research laboratory CERN uses Proxim AP-4000 Mesh Access PointsLast year, the Geneva-based nuclear research laboratory CERN (European Centre for Nuclear Research) bought 60 dual-radio Proxim ORiNOCO AP-4000 Mesh Access Points from Multicap. This organisation - in whose buildings the world-famous Dan Brown bestseller 'Angels & Demons' starts - chose our Access Points because of the available Mesh* functionality. That feature allows CERN to extend the range of the laboratory's Wi-Fi network and to provide continuous monitoring of the lab's calorimeters as the scientists descend into the underground cavern (100m underground!) to conduct experiments.

Both Proxim and CERN don't hide their enchantment on the relationship between their organisations. Both benefit from the creative approach that is the use of Mesh technology in such a demanding and 'exotic' environment. Lionel Chmilewsky, Senior Vice President, Proxim International, commented, “Our relationship with CERN and our ability to respond to their unique needs underscores the technological and practical capabilities of our Mesh products as well as our strong real-world understanding of how to overcome actual operating challenges. While the CERN Mesh network is certainly not typical, it is proof of Proxim’s expertise in Mesh and the willingness of Proxim and its partners to help customers worldwide solve whatever wireless network challenges they face.”
