Early 2007, Belgian wireless specialists Multicap and the internationally renowned crane company Sarens NV started an interesting and challenging cooperation.
THE CHALLENGE
Sarens's specialised cranes are being rented and used worldwide. So far, the company never had any means to online follow up on the exact location of its cranes and on the actual number of hours they had been active. An automated localisation and follow-up system might be a solution, Sarens figured.
THE SOLUTION
To solve this problem, Sarens knocked at the door of Multicap, the specialist in various professional wireless applications since many years.
For, Multicap was able to convince Sarens with its integrated custom-made total solution: ‘Globe Tracking’! As a result, Multicap now both provides the appropriate registration unit (which is mounted onto the crane) and the central management software allowing Sarens to perform the cited follow-up activities.
A solution was chosen based on GPRS & GPS. The GPRS connections are used for the transfer of the generated data on the crane engine and the diesel tanks. And through the GPS system, a real-time follow-up on the crane's whereabouts is enabled.
‘Globe Tracking’ is a certain solution guaranteeing Sarens that is able to follow up on its cranes and machines worldwide and in any circumstances.
REQUESTING CRANE LOCATIONS AND GENERATING REPORTS
Thanks to Multicap's solution, Sarens can now in different ways request where its cranes are being used. 'Globe Tracking is based on Google Maps. That allows users to request a crane's position on road maps, satellite images and even on hybrid maps.
Apart from that, it is important that it can be logged easily and for each individual crane when technical maintenances have been carried out and when the next one should be planned, what the crane status is (working, inactive), etc. That is possible through reports that can be generated (moment recording or as an overview).
